When I heard about a place opened by a Michelin-starred chef, I couldn’t help but try it, of course – so I’ve already been several times to Taste of Italy by Heinz Beck. In this article I will talk about its pizzas: round and slices.
Like Eataly, the space is spread over a large area divided into different sections. There is the restaurant – where you can eat pizza or other dishes – and various corners where you can buy typical Italian products such as bread, salami, fresh pasta, ice cream, and pizza slices.
The main difference that you immediately notice, compared to Eataly, is the large amount of Italian staff – an important detail for this type of restaurant. –
Every time I’ve been there – always at weekends – the place was almost empty. Therefore it was never difficult to find a table.
A friend and I decided to order 2 different pizzas to share for lunch: a margherita with buffalo mozzarella – which must be specially requested because on the menu there’s only one with classic mozzarella – and a pizza bianca (without tomato sauce) with bietola, shrimp and stracciatella cheese.
I wasn’t at all satisfied with the margherita with buffalo mozzarella. Although the ingredients used on the top were delicious, the dough had a consistency very similar to that of a frozen pizza.
The pizza bianca topped with bietola, shrimp and stracciatella cheese, definitely won my heart. It was very good! The dough looked decidedly different from that of the margherita. In addition, the stracciatella was piled high – in Italy I ate stracciatella from Puglia where it originated, so I can say with assurance that the one at Taste of Italy was really delicious – and I loved the combination with the Bietola, it was perfect. Although there weren’t many shrimps, the end result was excellent.
– Eating a whole pizza of this type may be a bit heavy, not because of the dough but because of the stracciatella … so, if you can, I recommend you share one like I did :-) –
The space dedicated to pizza slices offers a wide variety of flavours to choose from – it’s similar to being in a pizzeria in Italy – and, above all, the pizza looks very inviting! – It’s nothing like Eataly –
I tried a slice of the classic margherita. Compared to the round pizza, this dough was much higher and softer: although usually I prefer the more crispy consistency, it was delicious. The tomato was sweet and overall it was very tasty. Try it!
All the staff are always very polite but each time I’ve felt they were quite anxious about their performance.
It was around 50 AED (around 36, 25€) for two round pizzas.
In this article I talk about its breakfast ;)
