İrmik Helvası – A Simple Turkish Dessert that Doesn’t Require an Oven

The İrmik Helvası is a traditional Turkish recipe made from semolina flour. It’s a delicious dessert which doesn’t require an oven.

Ingredients

– 2 Full tablespoons of butter
– 2 Cups of semolina
– 1.5 Cups of sugar
– 2 Cups of milk
– Cinnamon powder
– Pine nuts

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a pan. Add the pine nuts and let them toast for a minute
  2. Pour over the semolina and stir continuously for around 6 minutes over medium heat until the color of the semolina has turned into a light brown color
  3. Add the sugar and roast all ingredients for a few more minutes. Stir continuously to not burn the semolina
  4. Add the milk and keep stirring all mixture until the milk has been absorbed
  5. Once ready pour all mixture into a plate, shape it with a spoon and let it rest for at least half an hour
  6. Sprinkle the top with cinnamon, cut into slices and serve
